Kelly Eidson
Kelly’s classroom is a dynamic place where scientific fact and hands-on application collide. In addition to leaving the class with a deeper comprehension of the material, Kelly also hopes her students will gain a better understanding of their own learning styles and a lifelong desire to be awed by the majesty of God in creation through science. In her classroom, students will be challenged to strengthen their minds, apply the scientific method, and curate curiosity.
After growing up attending a homeschool co-op focused on science, creation, and the Christian faith, Kelly attended the University of Georgia where she majored in Biological Sciences and Entomology. There she discovered a love for applying scientific concepts in real-world models. Her entomology classes captivated her as she learned how physical and natural scientific principles from other fields could be observed within insects’ tiny bodies. Her next step was to enroll in the University of Georgia’s Entomology PhD program, where she worked in a lab researching the beneficial viruses of parasitoid wasps. Her molecular research included manipulating wasp RNA to alter gene expression to study how these wasps and viruses interact.
Now a chemistry teacher at Wilson Hill Academy, Kelly also enjoys spending time serving her church, making intricate pottery, and playing pickleball or board games with her husband, Dean. A quote that inspires her is, “I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station, through which God speaks to us every hour, if we will only tune in.” – George Washington Carver.
