Jodi’s classroom is an exciting place where time flies! She has a passion for instilling in her students the love of books and leads them on a thrilling journey through language, literature and poetry, immersing them in God’s beauty, goodness and truth. Her students come to class excited to participate. They work hard and often exceed her expectations. In fact, year after year Jodi watches students who say they don’t enjoy reading transform into avid readers who yearn to tuck away with a great book. Notes and pictures from students and parents ping her inbox attesting to this newfound love of reading, bringing her deep joy because she knows it will impact the rest of their lives for good.

Jodi graduated with honors from Auburn University of Montgomery with a Bachelor of Science in elementary education. She taught for five years in both public and private schools before staying home at the birth of her first child. In 2002 when their oldest child reached kindergarten, the Smiths decided to homeschool. The next years were spent raising, training and teaching their four children. She began teaching online in 2011, which allowed her to be at home with her children and use her creative gifts to educate and encourage other children from all over the world in subjects that she loves. She considers it a privilege to come alongside families and be a part of their educational journeys.

In 2014 the Smiths expanded their family by adopting from China. Through yearly trips to Chinese orphanages, Jodi has continued her advocacy for these children in need. Having grown up in an Air Force family, she developed a love of travel and adventure. She loves to read, take pictures, explore new places and share God’s creation with others. Her three oldest children graduated through online high school, and two have graduated from college. Jodi serves Wilson Hill as a teacher and as an Academic Assistant on our Academics leadership team.
