AP Chemistry
Students in AP® Chemistry expand on and deepen their understanding of material mastered in a prior high school chemistry course. The College Board has formally authorized this course to carry the AP® designation and designed it to be equivalent to a first-year college-level general chemistry class. As a course that is designed to provide an equivalent learning experience to a college-level class, AP® Chemistry demands the time and devotion that a college course requires, including laboratory work at home using lab equipment and reagents ranging from household chemicals to chemicals purchased from a chemical supplier. The course provides the educational foundation for students to take the AP Chemistry exam administered by the College Board each May. Topics include: atomic structure, intermolecular forces and bonding, chemical reactions, kinetics, thermodynamics and equilibrium.
Prerequisites: Successful completion of Algebra 2 and a rigorous honors chemistry class (preferably within the last year) required.
