Section: Languages, Schools   |   School: School of Rhetoric

In this advanced French course, students develop a more natural rhetorical grasp of the language. They enjoy a variety of ongoing opportunities to practice the communication skills learned in French 1 and 2 as they discuss and write about relevant cultural issues. Teachers speak almost entirely in French and continually encourage students to speak and write in French as well. Upon successfully completing French 3, students are prepared to communicate effectively in real-life situations in French, both verbally and in writing.

Topics include: idiomatic expressions and non-verbal communication skills that are needed to truly understand how the French language works in the context of the people who speak it; cultural characteristics; and contemporary social and cultural issues.

Prerequisites: French 2 or equivalent

Suggested Grade Level: 10–12

2024-2025 French 3 Book List

NOTE: Given the low expected enrollment in advanced French courses for 2024-25, French 4 students will meet together with French 3 students in a combined class.  Separate written assignments and readings will reflect the more advanced abilities of these students.
