What grade are you in? What city and state do you live in?

I am in 11th grade and I live in Brownsburg, Indiana.

What do you love most about being a student at Wilson Hill?

I love the thought provoking questions and how all of the students are constantly challenged to think more deeply about their own role in Christ’s church and the world. All the material we cover and lessons we learn in class can be applied in my daily life. I love the patience with which we are taught, yet at the same time the high expectations we are held to.

How has classical education made an impact on your life?

As I stated before, most everything that I learn is applicable to my life. It has taught me to not “float through life” without giving careful thought to the most important and fundamental questions. It has shown me how the decisions I make are critical, not just for myself but for the impact they have on others around me. The training I have received in how to discuss difficult subjects has shown me the importance of my need to develop my own views on these matters, and to begin to do so now rather than waiting until I am “grown up”.

What do you enjoy most about taking online classes?

I enjoy having the ability to interact with Christian classmates and learn from amazing Christian teachers, and yet still be able to remain in a homeschooled setting.

Do you have a favorite subject, one that you might pursue in college some day?

My favorite subject would have to be The Great Conversation class. I love to study literature and be able to read it from a Biblical standpoint. My goal as of right now is to work with children who have special needs, but I do hope to take what I have learned in this class and be able to be a witness for Christ in that and in whatever I do.

Do you have a favorite book or literary genre?

I do not necessarily have a favorite genre because I love books from various genres — everything from Harry Potter to The Count of Monte Cristo. But one book that I really enjoyed was Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier. Rebecca was so very interesting to me because the writing alone is phenomenal. Du Maurier truly makes you feel part of the story. It is written in such a way that you never find out the name of the main character. The book is a masterful combination of suspenseful and enjoyable storytelling.

What do you like to do for fun?

I love reading books, playing the piano, doing almost anything that is out of doors, and am finding increasing pleasure in learning about/reading God’s Word.

I also participate in Falconry — the sport of catching birds of prey from the wild and training them to hunt with you. I have been doing it for three years and just released my bird back into the wild today. From November to February we hunt about three times a week. During the summer I just keep my hawk fed and exercised. It has been such a great experience and I can’t wait to catch and train another hawk next year.
