Wilson Hill Academy is proud of our AP® students who took AP Exams in May. Overall we had 29 enrolled in AP classes (Biology, Calculus AB, Chemistry, and Latin). The students and teachers who pioneered these courses at WHA deserve a special round of applause for their efforts and results:

Class Instructor Tested/Total    5’s    4’s    3’s
Biology Owens, M      8 of 13    0    3    2
Calculus
Stublen, A      8 of 10    3    1    2
Chemistry Welch, A      0 of 3  n/a  n/a  n/a
Latin Hensley, J      3 of 3    0    2    1

To put these numbers in context, we learned at an AP Conference this week in Austin that a “3” is a very commendable score, and most colleges will grant credit for it. The 2015 national averages for the three exams taken were:

  • AP Biology scores: 5: 6.2%; 4: 22%; 3: 35.9%; 2: 27.6%; 1: 8.3%.
  • AP Latin scores: 5: 12.7%; 4: 21.5%; 3: 29.5%; 2: 24.3%; 1: 12%.
  • AP Calculus AB scores: 5: 21.3%; 4: 17.1%; 3: 18.7%; 2: 10.5%; 1: 32.4%

Trevor Packer, Senior Vice President, AP and Instruction at the College Board, recently tweeted:  “Most admissions offices see all AP courses as equally valuable, but 20% value some AP courses more than others. Any guesses which subjects? Within the 20% of admission offices that value some AP subjects over others: #1: Calc AB; #2: Calc BC; #3: Chem; #4: Bio; #5: Eng Lang.” Wilson Hill Academy is pleased to offer three of these five as courses; it is not too late to register for these and other AP courses for 2015-16:

  • AP Biology
  • AP Calculus AB
  • AP Chemistry
  • AP Environmental Science
  • AP Government
  • AP Latin
  • AP Statistics
